Chronicle

The history of any thing or person can be briefly summed in a Chronicle of dates and events. I could list a gazzillion events, as so could you. However, to satisfy my whimsy, I am selecting mostly the life jarring events - the so called turning points in a road well trod. So here's the cut of this list to date:

1947 I am Born (how Dickensian, but not a unique feat) - Brooklyn, NY
1952 I start school.
1954 Moved to a new neighborhood.
1956 First time I was called "queer" - by my cousin and her friends.
1957 Heard Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado for the first time.
1958 Wrote my first novel about Scout Camp (how queer) and also several rather inane librettos
1959 Singing Boy Soprano.
1960 Graduated from PS 99 and started attending Midwood HS
1961 Came under the guidance of Bella Tillis at Midwood for voice. Enrolled in the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
1962 Went to Gay Beach at Riis park with a fellow student. If that counted as my first "date" - I had my second date with that student in 2001 - 39 years later.
1963 Sang the lead tenor role in The Pirates of Penzance with the Charles Pope Singers
1964 Graduated from Midwood HS (barely) - enrolled at Brooklyn College. Started work as office boy at Ferdinand Gutmans.
1964 Went on my first extended vacation to Atlanta Georgie. Decided I would become a minister. (What else is a gay-closeted lad to do).
1965 Started working at Dun & Bradstreet. Still there after 38 years having had a wild, roller coaster career.
1966 Drafted into the Army. Stationed at Ft. Gordon - then, Ft Benning.
1967-68 Stationed in Grafenwoehr, Germany. Wrote poetry and short stories. Traveled to Italy and Denmark and all over Europe. (They asked? I wouldn't tell).
1968 Honorably discharged. Returned to Dun & Bradstreet and Brooklyn College and the Brooklyn Conservatiory of Music. My Major was English.
1971 Graduated from BC (major now History). Took trip to Europe with family.
1973 Graduated with MA in History from Brooklyn College - Major in Chinese History (Sinology). Was accepted into Colunbia University.
1974 Wrote first "China" themed novel that would become the first link in Nan Ya (2003) 25 years later.
1975 Dropped out of Columbia. STRESS and lack of money. Started the professional leg of my corporate career as a reporter.
1976 Became a cedit analyst - then a credit consultant
1977 Promoted to manager with a special credit product. Came under the wing of BIG corporate mentor.
1979 Bought house in Sayreville, NJ.
1981 Sang with the Shrewsbury Chorale
1982 Sang Kismet with the Monmouth Civic Chorus (1st Imam)
1983 Joined the Presbyterian Church
1984 Became a staff member at Headquarters in New Jersey - Marekting
1985 Went to China with my Mom for a month. Watershed event. Bought an Apple iic computer
1987 Promoted to Director. Inherited on-line access systems. Sang with Princeton Pro Musica
1988/89 Spent 2 years on the road for the company, over 60 business trips.
1990 Major system project released. Came out of the closet finally.
1991 Joined Gay Activist Association Morris County (GAAMC) the NJ mothership for gay ferment.
1992 Co-Founder the New Jersey Gay Men's Chorus with Jay Kawarsky. It was originally known as the Delaware Valley Men's Chorus. Took them to Denver to GALA Festival.
1993 Finished many works of Poetry and 8th and 9th draft of Novel based on Master's Dissertation.
1994 GALA Festival in Tampa Fl.
1995 Began Mouse's Web Pages
1996 Founded dnbcollections.com for my company.
1997 Worked on Corporate Inclusion and Diversity projects
1998 Founded Gay & Lesbian Information Support Network (GLISN)
1999 Won Minority Achievement of the Year award in NJ. GLISN raised over $40,000 for AIDS Charity. GLISN marched in the NT Gay Pride Parade under it's own banner.
2000 Joined the Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company - and sang Major General Stanley in the first year.
2000/1 Wrote 5 Plays based on the "China" material and wrote 7 plays on various older and new gay-themed material.
2001 My work Division was purchased by new owners (my boss) and moved to Bethlehem PA. I live in a hotel for 6 months.
2002 Moved into apartment in Allentown PA and commuted between house and apartment. Company awards me with trip to Mexico for high performance and revenue gains.
2003 Job eliminated in down sizing caused by over optimism with Worldcom account. Got another position within the company at considerably reduced scope working nights. Used day to finished novels, launch website and embrace/share my life experiences with everyone.
2004 Great things will happen.
